New York and Amsterdam Based Residential Interior Design Firm
At Chiaroscuro Studios we embrace the dance between uniqueness and consistency in our interiors, creating visual, tactile moments that shine in their own spotlight and live in balance throughout the home.
The Italian word “chiaroscuro” refers to the interplay of light and dark in art, and we apply this way of thinking to the interiors that we dedicate ourselves to. By thoughtfully bringing together disciplines and techniques that may seem in contrast to one another, we allow space for unique connections, synergies, and stories. Our goal is to harmoniously blend the idiosyncracies and worlds of each client, honoring personality and lifestyle to create environments that reflect the dreams and realities of the people who call them home.
Chiaroscuro Studios was established in 2023, dedicated to the belief that design creates opportunity for our spaces and selves to evolve alongside each other. Interior designers Katherine Harris Foster and Elise Marie Seregni started the firm after connecting over a shared love of design and working together at a multi-disciplinary design firm (with their work published in Architectural Digest), with the shared goal of creating beautiful, practical spaces that embrace the narrative of your life.

About Katherine
Katherine’s creative upbringing, grounded in fine art, textile-based craft, and guiding historical home tours in Shaker Heights, Ohio birthed a career in storytelling across a variety of mediums. Her education in Marketing, International Business, and Fashion Design from Washington University in St. Louis led to over a decade of eCommerce leadership at luxury home, beauty, and lifestyle brands, in addition to more than five years of residential interior design work.
Her design expertise lies in understanding and translating the client’s point of view to create serenely balanced, warmly collected environments graced with curated antiques and a bit of mischief. Katherine’s design practice is rooted in the belief that the energy of our spaces should complement that of our own selves and reinforce what we each strive to contribute to and connect with in the world.
About Elise
Born in Belgium and growing up in Milan, Elise was exposed to design, art, and architecture from a young age, so deciding to study Architecture at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio in Switzerland and then pursuing a M.S. in Interior Design at Pratt Institute in New York felt like a natural decision.
Since then, Elise has built her design experience across a range of projects, from high-end residential to hospitality to yachts, with work completed throughout Europe and the United States. Back in the EU after nearly 6 years in New York City, Elise enthusiastically brings her passion and knowledge of the interior design world to her projects, exercising a practice that fosters closer relation between different artforms in her work.
